At KG Logistics, we can offer roll-on roll-off (RoRo) services to most coastal nations in Africa and the Caribbean:

RoRo Services: A Brief Overview

  • RoRo shipments involve you driving your vehicle to the port in the UK, the port will then drive the vehicle onto the vessel, ship to the port of destination, then drive the vehicle off at the destination.
  • The main ports that offer RoRo services in the UK are: Tilbury, Southampton, Teesport, and Sheerness.
  • Pricing for RoRo shipments is determined by the size of the vehicle. At KG, we will need to know the following before providing a quote: the make and model of the vehicle, the year of manufacture, and the weight and dimensions (length, width, and height) of the vehicle. A price is then determined on the CBM (cubic meterage), as the price is a result of how much space the vehicle takes up.
  • If unsure, it is easy to determine based on vehicle type, for example, is your car a hatchback, saloon, coupe, estate, 4×4, SUV, or HGV.
  • If you are shipping an EV (electric vehicle), there are further restrictions with shipping lines. Some currently choose not to handle RoRo shipments of Tesla, BYD, and other electric makes and models.

What Do I Need to Know/Do Before Shipping?

  • Each vehicle MUST be in driving order before it can be shipped, as you will be responsible for getting the vehicle to port, as well as the ports needing to be able to move the vehicle at the port of loading and discharge.
  • Each vehicle MUST be clean and free of dirt.
  • All personal effects and belongings MUST be removed. Some shipping lines offer a loaded surcharge, dependent on the type of vehicle.
  • You must have all correct vehicle documentation, such as vehicle registration, V5C, purchase invoice, and possibly MOT certification.
  • Each country has certain requirements for the vehicles it allows to import. Most of the time, this is dependent on the vehicle’s year of manufacture. For example, Nigeria does not allow vehicles older than 12 years (2013 and older) to be imported. This is the case for many other countries such as Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, and Jamaica.  If you are looking to purchase a car to ship, make sure it fits in with the import regulations for your country of destination.
  • At KG, we can only offer shipment of vehicles to the port of destination for African and Caribbean nations. You will need to arrange for an agent/forwarder in the country of destination, to arrange customs clearance, delivery and duties and taxes payment.
  • We can offer insurance on RoRo shipments and can be quoted upon request.
