What transport options are available?

The most applicable method of freight transportation will depend on where you are moving from and to. Some moves, such as from the UK to Europe, can be undertaken by road freight. However, the most common freight options are sea and air freight.

Sea Freight

This is the most common type of freight transportation for international removals. If you have a lot of belongings to move, you may want to purchase the space of an entire container. This is known as full container load (FCL) and is available in numerous sizes: 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft. A 20ft container can hold around 1050 cubic feet of packed furniture.

However, if you have fewer items to take then you should only pay for the space you need. This is known as less-than-container load (LCL) and involves your furniture and belongings being packed in a container with other people’s items. This is the most cost-effective solution for those not transporting a large amount.

Air freight

Air freight is the best transportation option if you are only moving a small number of belongings and need them transported quickly. However, this method is not cost-effective, especially not for large moves. Sometimes people may send a small shipment of their essential belongings ahead by air and follow with the non-essentials by sea freight.

Road freight

If you live in the UK and are moving to mainland Europe, road freight may be the most suitable option for you. Just like sea freight, there are FCL or LCL options available depending on how much you want to transport.

The exact time it takes to transport your household goods overseas will depend on a range of factors.

The method of transport. Air freight is the fastest option and can have your belongings delivered in the time it takes to fly from your location to the destination. Sea freight will take the longest to deliver your household goods, but you can purchase exclusive containers that are the quickest sea shipping option.

Where you are moving from and to. the location you are shipping from and to will obviously affect the time it takes to arrive and will influence which transportation method is most appropriate.

Storage services

Many international removal projects will require short- and long-term storage options. If you aren’t ready to receive the delivery straight away, a storage solution can be sorted out until you are.
